This Monday, the program ‘ C’est dans l’air ‘  dedicated its little more than an hour to the elections in Catalonia, focusing on the independence of the region. During the discussion, which featured four experts – among them the controversial historian Benoit Pellistrandi, who some time ago questioned Catalan linguistic immersion – and which was titled ‘Catalan risk and independence contagion’, it was stated that  “there is a racist component in the Catalans”  in relation to their desire to break away from Spain and establish themselves as their own State. Furthermore, French journalists indicated their fear that Catalonia’s independence aspirations could affect the French region of  North Catalonia in the near future.

To justify this harsh statement, the experts who participated in the debate assured that the  sovereigntists  “are  rich who do not want to pay for the poor”  and that they are part of a “bourgeoisie that  has always felt superior . ” They also added that from educational institutions the independentists have taken advantage of their powers “to  indoctrinate children ” in favor of independence and hatred of Spain, an accusation that was also made by the candidate of the Popular Party,  Xavier García Albiol , during the electoral campaign. .

Leaving in the air whether Catalonia  will be the “29th country of the European Union”  and insisting that the central government “wants to maintain the unity of Spain” and “preserve this region of just over 7 million inhabitants” which it describes as “ economically essential”, France 5 has received a multitude of criticism in recent hours after the debate went unnoticed in our country.

“They are official lies of the Spanish regime”

According to the  Federation for the Catalan Language and Culture in Northern Catalonia , which includes more than a hundred associations that defend and promote the Catalan language and culture in this French region, the statements made by France 5 are nothing more that “an exact reproduction of the  arguments of the media cavern  and the  official lies of the Spanish regime . ” “We want to express our indignation at the total lack of objectivity, contradiction and seriousness in the treatment of the independence victory,” said this federation, which believes that the objective was none other than to “hurt” the Catalan viewers of France 5. .

Finally, this entity, created in 1980 in the French town of Perpignan, demands from the channel “excuses and seriousness and verified information” as well as a broadcast of ‘C’est dans l’air’ in which it talks about its rejection of the accusations of racism “coming from  a country with an omnipresent National Front.”
